Ask a Sex Therapist

I recently just got married and our sex life is not great. My wife just is not into sex. The reason is due to my severe premature ejaculation, which has gotten better, but I can't get her into the mood. How can I get her into the mood and make it more enjoyable for her?

Twenty percent of men or more have premature ejaculation so you are not alone. However, there are a few treatment approaches available. Sometimes, masturbating 15-30 minutes before you have sex can help you to thrust longer while you are penetrating your wife. Secondly, any of the SSRI types of medication (Paxil, Zoloft, Lexipro) treat Premature Ejaculation well but you do have to take the medication daily. Third, you can teach yourself the 'squeeze technique' which you can find in any good book on male sexual problems. However, since most females climax with clitoral stimulation not penile thrusting, I wonder if she doesn't like sex for another reason and you are assuming it is your premature ejaculation? I'd make sure you have a very honest talk about the problem and ask HER what would get her in the mood? - Answer provided by Dr. Shay Roop, RN, LMHC, Ed.D, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Board Certified by the American Board of Sexology, shay@drshay.org, www.drshay.org.
