Ask a Sex Therapist

I am no longer a virgin. Every time I have sex with my boyfriend I bleed a lot and I want to know why.

There are times when a female may bleed after intercourse. This is usually after the first time, losing one's virginity, or if you have vigorous sex and the female is not lubricated. I suggest that you go and see your doctor as you are saying you are bleeding a lot. This can be a sign of something that needs medical attention. - Answer provided by Alan L. Marcus, Ph.D., AASECT Certified, drmarcus@tmail.com, www.gpatherapy.com.

Some bleeding, especially early in one's experiences of intercourse, is normal. However the bleeding should be only slight and should only occur one or two times at first and then subsequent intercourse. It sounds like, from what you say, that the bleeding is beyond this. I would really urge you to see a medical doctor as soon as possible. The chances of there being something really bad are remote, yet it needs to be checked out. So please see a medical doctor soon. - Answer provided by Michael Gonzales, Ph.D., mfgonzal@speakeasy.net, www.upasoc.com.
